The Melbourne Cup-winning trainer, who scored four triumphs on the opening day, saluted with Waxing in a 3600-metre hurdle.
Irish-born jockey John Allen rode the winner, backing up his two victories for the Ballarat-based trainer on Tuesday.
Waxing ($2.70) won by 2.5 lengths from Warrnambool-trained Saddle of the Stars ($7.50) and Meilucca ($51), which was a further eight lengths back.
Weir said he was happy with Allen’s ride.
“He got a good challenge there halfway down the straight by the local horse,” he said.
“He needed every bit of the trip. Johnny was keen to run him in the longer main hurdle, so it was the right decision.”
Weir won maiden hurdles with Fastnet Isle and Paraggi on the carnival’s opening day.
“The best one got beat – I brought four down here and thought Ancient King is the best one and the other three won and he got beat,” he said.
