The VFF said recommendations made to the government by more than 30 industry stakeholders – including the VFF – as part of a cross-departmental review into the tax were ignored in the budget, leaving a lot of stakeholders wondering why they bothered.
VFF horticulture vice president Emma Germano said the VFF and its partner organisations proposed a 19 per cent tax rate for backpackers from the first dollar earned, eliminating a tax-free threshold.
