The latest in his long list of achievements is being named as a non-travelling reserve for Australia in the ITU Junior World Triathlon Championships, which will be held in Mexico in September.
The talented 17-year-old chose not to nominate for championships consideration this year, given he is completing year 12 studies at Camperdown College, but impressed Triathlon Australia officials with his results, prompting them to make the offer.
If one of the three competing members of the male team is forced to withdraw, Kurt will be given the opportunity to fill the void and represent Australia.
“If I get the call-up, I will definitely go, but I won’t do any of the lead-up camps,” he said.
This season, Kurt finished third in the ITU Junior Australian title at Devonport, and was the fifth Australian across the line and eighth overall at the Oceania Championships in New Zealand.
Kurt said he was pleased with his efforts this season, particularly given he battled four stress fractures.
“It was a great season coming back from injury and it gave me a lot of confidence,” he said.
