The Bloods host undefeated South Warrnambool at Terang Recreation Reserve on Saturday, eager to produce their first victory under the first-year mentor.
The 2015 preliminary finalist has fallen to reigning premier Koroit and a much-improved Camperdown in the first two weeks of the 2016 season.
Dirago believes Terang Mortlake is building and has shown patches of its best.
“We have a big focus on playing four quarters,” he said of Saturday’s clash.
“We have played good football but only for two or three quarters a game.
“When we are at our best we are moving the ball well and really pressuring our opponents and if we do that for four quarters it will go a long way to winning this week.”
Terang Mortlake conceded eight first-quarter goals in its 46-point loss to Camperdown at Leura Oval.
Dirago, a key defender at VFL level who expects to play forward against the Roosters, said the Bloods needed to address their slow starts.
He said it was a mindset issue.
“It’s all above the shoulders really,” he said.
Dirago said creative forward Joe Arundell and midfielder Mitch Carlin were leading by example after strong starts to the season.
“Joe is playing good footy and that’s what we’re looking for – the younger boys to take ownership with their leadership,” he said.
