The majority of the playing group shaved their heads, raising money for Mr O’Brien, who has testicular cancer.
Assistant coach and captain Rory Taggert said the Eagles raised about $8000.
“Tim is going through a bit of a rough time at the moment, so we thought we would get behind him,” Mr Taggert said. “He’s a lovable guy. It shows how good the community is. Everyone is rallying together.”
Mr Taggert said Mr O’Brien attended the fundraiser and was blown away by the support.
“There wouldn’t be many of the playing group that didn’t shave their head,” he said.
In March a group of Mr O’Brien’s schoolmates at Emmanuel College shaved their heads, raising more than $18,000. The money raised will go towards medical costs.
