Howard, an accomplished singer, pianist, guitarist and vocal director, joins an esteemed list of festival favourites such as John Butler and the Waifs, who have been the awarded the top honour in previous years.
The award recognises an artist who has made a significant contribution to the folk music community and industry.
“Playing on stage, writing songs and expressing how I feel, or playing an instrument and humming a tune is the most comfortable place for me to be,” she said.
Howard has made music with top artists in the industry, including Goanna, Mary Black, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Hothouse Flowers, Eric Clapton and Archie Roach. She has also recorded and performed with Australian Indigenous artists including Bart Willoughby, Joe Geia, and The Pigram Brothers. Howard will launch her new EP, Nashville Sessions, at the folk festival.
