What are your expectations of the event?
That’ll it’ll be fun!
What do you love about Port Fairy?
Its gorgeous old buildings and being right on the ocean, it’s got a rugged windy beauty to it.
Which performers are you most looking forward to seeing at the festival?
Steve Earle!
How are you enjoying living in the states?
I love it and I miss home too. I wish I could live everywhere at once.
How has living overseas influenced your music and its future direction?
The challenges of living in another country have definitely influenced my work. I’ve looked at ideas around what ‘home’ is and what roots are, if they even exist. I’ve been inspired by the landscapes and people here and it continues to impact my writing.
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m always writing songs and in the coming year will be putting together another release. I’m not sure what that will look like but i’m heading to Muscle Shoals when I get back from Australia to work with John Paul White of the Civil Wars.
At what age did you decide to become a musician and what was the inspiration behind it?
I started playing piano around five for a few years - my dad is a musician and guitar maker and both my parents are big music fans too, so I fell in love with music pretty early on.
What is your performance highlight and why?
On this last tour we performed out in the wilds of eastern Oregon on a mule ranch….met some frontier people and had a blast.
What is your favourite concert or festival experience as a patron?
I love Mullumbimby music festival 'cause it’s small and intimate and super fun.
What was the first album you purchased?
Tom Petty Full Moon Fever on vinyl.
Who was the first concert/ artist you ever saw live?
My parents took us to a lot of gigs. The first one i can remember was The Black Sorrows - very exciting and loud!
