On Thursday, the Victorian Health Department said 143 people were believed to have fallen ill with salmonella after eating a range of pre-packaged lettuce products produced by Tripod Farmers.
A Tripod Farmers spokesman said the company was still working with authorities to investigate how the rare anatum strain of salmonella got into its products, which had been recalled from supermarkets.
In Victoria, there are 99 "probable cases" of salmonella linked to the products and nine confirmed cases. There are also eight probable cases in NSW, 14 probable cases in South Australia, eight probable cases in Queensland and five probable cases in Western Australia.
The affected products were sold at Coles and Woolworths, and used in ready-to-eat meals by Lite n' Easy.
