Co-ordinator Fran Hynes said almost 40 teams would take part in the annual event, which raises money for the Cancer Council.
The event begins with an opening ceremony at 6.30pm and the relay will continue until 1pm Saturday.
This relay will have an Olympic theme, in timing with this year’s Rio games, and a heptathlon of different Olympic-themed events will run from 10pm.
A focus of the event is an emotional ceremony at 9pm during which people light candles to remember loved ones who had died from cancer, and to support those having treatment or who have battled the disease.
Live music will also be a feature and tai chi and children’s activities will be held on Saturday morning. The Warrnambool event raises more than $110,000 for the Cancer Council each year.
