OLD-FASHIONED fun and exciting new additions will draw crowds to the 99th annual Tyrendarra Show this weekend.

Billed as a traditional and affordable family agricultural show, president Peter Malseed said Saturday’s event was sure to offer something for everyone.
“We must be doing something right at Tyrendarra to reach our 99th show,” he said.
“People still love to enter their animals or produce, or just see what others are doing. Children still love the fun of an agricultural show.”
Roving stilt walkers, circus workshops and a chainsaw wood carver will be among the show’s more unusual additions.
They will be joined by mini-golf, a photo booth, free stagecoach rides, children’s rides, alpaca shearing demonstration, an animal nursery and mobile zoo.
While there will be plenty of light entertainment, the competition will be serious with horse, poultry, craft and cookery among the popular sections returning for the 99th event.
There are 89 categories in the poultry section alone, with entries received from Mount Gambier, Yambuk and Heywood.
The horse section will run across two days. Four rings will operate on Saturday, covering more than 140 individual events that cater for beginner riders to those with more experience.
Showjumping begins at 8.30am and continues for most of the day.
On Sunday the Horsemanship Challenge will be held, divided into different classes for different riding levels and encompasses three phases – working pattern, time trial and obstacle course.
Mr Malseed said the show proved craft and fancy work was not a lost art with its fancy work section.
“A visit to the Tyrendarra Show will reassure you that the beautiful fancy work of the past is still alive,” Mr Malseed said.
“Patchwork, applique, knitting, cross-stitch, quilting, tapestry, and smocking are all represented in this section.”
The ever-popular scarecrow competition will also return to this year’s show, giving younger generations the chance to show off their creative skills.
“It’s terrific to see the imagination and effort that many of the school children put into their entry,” Mr Malseed said.
