13 years on, Scott’s about to share an AFL club with Joel after the midfielder signed with Geelong as a free agent.
West Coast’s decision not to match the offer the Cats put to Scott Selwood allowed the 25-year-old to join Geelong without a trade, although the Eagles will receive a compensation draft selection.
Scott’s move back to Victoria ends the Selwoods 13-year playing association with the Eagles after Adam played 187 games with the club from 2003-2013 and Scott played 135 games between 2008-2015.
“The West Coast Eagles have been a terrific club to both our boys (Adam and Scott), but sometimes it’s nice to have your boys at home,’’ Bryce Selwood said.
“Adam is still a development coach at West Coast and we’ll still be going to Perth as much as we can, but it will be nice to have Scott playing alongside Joel at Geelong.”
Scott’s final season with the Eagles was restricted because of an ankle injury that effectively cost him a place in the club’s grand final team.
“Scott’s had a difficult couple of years with his ankle injury,’’ Bryce said.
“He would get it sort of right and then come back and play a bit too early.
“He’ll have an operation on his ankle in Victoria and that should get it set. He’ll do rehab and then get stuck into pre-season training.”
Bryce said Joel and Scott have always shared a tight bond.
“There’s only 22 months between them in age, so they basically grew up together,’’ Bryce said.
“We had a four-bedroom home and there was no way that Adam and Troy were going to share a bedroom, so Joel and Scott shared a bedroom until Adam and Troy moved out.
“They played sport at the same clubs, did Little Athletics together and trained for sport together.
“They’ve been close all the way along and maintained a good relationship.”
