A large crowed enjoyed picture perfect weather for the annual Camperdown Show, which organisers described as an amazing success.
Show convenor Amanda Manifold said it was a good, relaxed, community event.
“It feels like everyone in town has pitched in to make it a success,” Ms Manifold said.
“We’ve had the school, local businesses, the lions and rotary clubs and sporting groups all put something in.
“It’s just been amazing and I’m so proud of the committee who drive this and the community who have supported us.”
The show had a “homegrown ideas in your backyard” theme and include garden, permaculture and beekeeping displays along with composting demonstrations and local produce was showcased with cooking demonstrations.
Traditional show favourites the pet nursery, woodchop and show personality competitions returned along with indoor and outdoor stalls and trade sites, a dog jump competition and pigeon release.
There was also sideshow alley and a vintage caravan display.
Ms Manifold said organisers received record home craft entries and animal categories were also well supported.
“There were record numbers for cattle and sheep were well up on previous years,” she said.
Six talented young riders from Warrong’s Van Someren Equestrian Vaulting Team put on a display of the sport, described as gymnastics on horses.
Co-ordinator Sharon Van Someren said the youngest member of the team was aged four.
“A lot of people don’t know what vaulting is so our aim to raise its profile,” Ms Van Someren said.
“We’ve got a lot demonstration commitments coming up around the region, so people will certainly know what it’s all about.
“We are hoping to host a competition in the south-west soon. We are in negotiations with Equestrian Victoria because at the moment all competitions are interstate.”
Ms Van Someren said the team trains twice a week and all abilities vaulting was also offered.
Former Jockey Brenton Primer had a good day out, ticking off a bucket list item and picking up ribbons in the flat equestrian events.
Camperdown is the first south-west show for the season. It will be followed by Warrnambool show, which begins on October 30, Port Fairy Show on November 7, Koroit show on November 14 and Noorat show, which will be held on November 21.
