In a partnership between Warrnambool City Council and arts collective F Project, the old decorations will be recycled and re-purposed to make new ornaments that will displayed around the CBD this festive season.
Artists submitted expressions of interest and concepts for the project and will have until the end of November to create finish their work, many of which will feature a marine theme.
One of the artists taking part is Julie Poi, who said the council should be congratulated for teaming with local artists for the project.
“Christmas is my favourite time,” Poi said. “For our family, making Christmas decorations and decorating the house is just part of what we do to spread Christmas joy.”
