Between 200 and 250 entries are expected at the Woolsthorpe event, with $12,000 in prizes on offer.
Warrnambool-based A grade shooter Graham Kemp said competitors would travel from across Victoria for the “must-attend” meeting.
“Along with the Australian titles it's probably one of the premier events on the shooting calendar, so we look forward to it,” the former club president said.
“It’s a major event of the club, so to do well at our own local shoot means a lot.”
Kemp expects local entrants will have a slight home advantage and hold their own across the different grades, which include ladies, juniors and veterans for people aged over 60.
“There would be a minor advantage to knowing the terrain and environment and surroundings,” he said.
“If the conditions get a bit rough and windy that will play into the locals’ hands a bit more. All grades are very competitive.”
Kemp said club organisers had been working to improve the event each year since its 2007 inception.
“One new initiative this year is a pool shoot, so when we’re not competing we can enter the pool shoot to practice in between rounds and earn a prize,” he said.
