The David Loader-coached side sits one game clear in top spot with one round to play after notching a 15.11 (101) to 11.9 (75) win against Calder Cannons at Eureka Stadium on Saturday.
A five-goal to one opening term set the tone for the Rebels.
“Now we will finish first or second which is a great result for us,” Loader said.
“It gives us a double chance and now we give ourselves an opportunity, if we are good enough, to shape our own future.
“I said to the boys tonight that the ball is our court as to where we go from here.”
South Warrnambool product Hugh McCluggage – one of the Rebels’ bottom-age talents – showed his versatility against the Cannons.
The classy teenager played midfield, wing and forward, kicking two goals to be among the Rebels’ best.
Koroit utility Jarrod Korewha – another impressive bottom-age prospect – kicked a goal.
Loader is hopeful Korewha’s Saints teammate, ruckman Nick Hausler, will recover from an ankle injury to play against finals-bound Oakleigh Chargers in the final home and away round.
Hausler has been one of the Rebels’ most consistent players this season, playing 14 matches.
