Andrew Jeffrey Flanagan was to face trial this week, accused of gaining high-ranking positions at a handful of businesses with false credentials.

But on Wednesday in the County Court he pleaded guilty to three counts of obtaining a financial advantage by deception and a single charge of attempting to obtain a financial advantage by deception.

Flanagan was hired by Myer in June last year as the department chain's general manager for strategic and business development, but left on his first day when it was discovered he had falsified his resume.

A police investigation then discovered that between 2011 and April last year he also held management positions at Bendigo Health, clothing retailer Rivers and the Australia Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry, all when he was not qualified to do so.

His job at Bendigo Health was to oversee the redevelopment of Bendigo Hospital, a previous court hearing was told.

A previous hearing was told Myer management approached Flanagan hours into his first day and told him one of the companies he had listed on his resume - a global fashion retailer - had reported it had never employed him.

Mr Flanagan told Myer management he had proof that he worked at the fashion retailer, but had to go home to retrieve it. He never returned to Myer and was not paid any money by the retailer, the court heard.

Judge Gerard Mullaly extended Flanagan's bail for him to return to court on Friday for a pre-sentence hearing.
