Mr Grayland, of Terang, was last month elected as the new president of the Victorian Agricultural Shows Ltd at the organisation’s state conference in Donald.
Mr Grayland said agriculture was still an important part of agricultural shows but people mainly wanted “a day’s entertainment” from the event.
However the agricultural aspect of shows was a great opportunity for urban residents to see the exciting things that were happening on the land, he said.
Mr Grayland said some agricultural shows in Victoria were thriving while others were struggling.
Having committee people with new ideas to draw people through the gates was key to a successful show, Mr Grayland said.
Mr Grayland is a former president of the Noorat Show and has been a board member of the Victorian Agricultural Shows Ltd for the past four years.
