Cr Neoh said the trial of an hour free in the Parkers car park has been a success mainly because it had helped boost the number of motorists making use of the off-street area.
“The free parking trail has started to get people off the streets and into Parkers, which wasn’t well utilised,” Cr Neoh said.
“But one size doesn’t fit all, you have to look at the dynamic of each of the off-street car parks.
“The Ozone and Coles car parks already have high uptake and Ozone offers a range of parking option from 15 minutes through to four hours. It’s simplistic to say lets do this everywhere.”
Cr Neoh said the free-trail has allowed people who needed to do one or two jobs in the CBD enough time to get their tasks done and return to the car.
Car park user Norma McIvor said she had makes use of the free hour parking at least twice a week.
“It’s really handy if you have to duck to the chemist or the bank,” she said.
“It’s much easier than driving up and down Liebig Street trying to find a park.”
