The open steeplechase at Warrnambool on Saturday is part of the plan to run in next year's Grand Annual Steeplechase.
Londregan said he had thrown the former Cairns-trained King Of The Forest in the the deep end.
"He knew nothing about the jumping caper at the start of the year,” he said.
“We gave him a couple of starts in hurdle races but the jumps were too small.
“He's really starting to measure up after a couple of runs in steeplechase races.
“We had to throw him in at the deep end as they were no restricted steeplechase races so we had to go into open class."
More than 33 millimetres of rain have fallen at the track over the last week.
Warrnambool Racing Club track manager Daniel Lumsden has rated the surface a heavy 10 but safe for winter racing.
