The Rentschs – navigator Ian and driver Shannon – placed second in round three of the series, the Riverland Enduro at Waikerie, South Australia.
They were ninth after a prologue on Saturday but climbed to second during the 300 kilometres of racing on Sunday.
South Australian Jack Rhodes won the enduro in three hours, 13 minutes and 36 seconds. Rhodes finished almost four minutes clear of the Rentschs (3.17.32).
The result has moved the Warrnambool combination closer to the AORC title. They have 1006 points, well clear of Carl Haby (773) and Rhodes (670).
An eighth title would elevate them as the most successful racers in AORC history. Their seven titles are only matched by Victorian Mark Burrows, a good friend of the pair.
