Mulraney snapped truly in the dying minutes to seal a 8.14 (62) to 7.10 (52) win in front of a big crowd at Victoria Park on Saturday.
In a contest where little separated both teams all day, the Saints found a way to get over the line despite the Seagulls finishing with a head full of steam.
Going into the last quarter Koroit had a 10-point lead and was kicking to the bowling green end of the ground, which was favoured by a howling wind.
But it was Port Fairy that had the wind in its sails, winning more of the ball through the middle of the ground but not able to penetrate deep enough against a sturdy Koroit defence.
Tyrone Bean found a way through when he drilled a set shot from 45 metres to reduce the margin to four points with just seven minutes gone.
The ball bounced between both backlines until Xavier McCartney received a free kick for too high and lined up a set shot to put the Seagulls in front.
The kick drifted away late to go through for a behind and bring the margin back to three points. The Saints pushed the ball forward from the ensuing kick-in and from a stoppage at half-forward Mulraney was able to read the ball off hands and kick the winning goal.
Koroit coach Adam Dowie was happy to come away with the win.
“It’s all pretty positive in terms of winning when maybe we mightn't have,” Dowie said.
“The good thing about today is we discovered some areas of our game we need to work on and that is something we welcome this time of year.
“I think maybe we might be a bit tall, certainly something to come out of today is we will look closely at the balance of our team.
“We have guys like Ben Goodall, Levi Nagorcka, James North, Willem Drew who aren’t far from coming back and who will give us run and pace.
“Port Fairy were really good, they obviously set themselves to improve from the last time we played them and they got a bit of momentum early and carried that through.”
It was a day when plenty of stars came out to play for the Saints.
Ben Dobson had the ball on a string for much of the game, floating a kick behind the play and using the football brilliantly each time he got it.
His brother Sam kicked two goals and was one of three good targets up forward along with Will Couch, who also kicked two, and Michael Darmody, who was busy with three of his own.
Jeremy Haulser was good in the ruck while Tom Lynch not only defended grimly but gave Koroit good rebound from the back half.
