The Warriors conceded the first three goals of the game but booted 18 to five thereafter to win 18.8 (116) to 8.11 (59) at Walter Oval today.
They remarkably had 17.3 on the board early in the last term before late inaccuracy prevented an even greater margin.
The win allowed Daryl Beechey's men to remain in touch with the top three. Importantly, they are two games clear of three sides also vying to play finals.
They include South Rovers. The other two - Nirranda and Kolora-Noorat - suffered defeats to opponents above them on the ladder today.
Crafty forward Matthew Petherick was the star of the show against the Lions, booting five goals in a season-best display. But he was not without support.
Jimmy Ryan presented well up forward, onballers Josh Dwyer, Colby Rix and Eli Barker impressed and Paul Campbell was miserly in defence.
Justin Lynch was also had a hand in most of what the Warriors did well while Beechey was also pleased with teenager Ben Rantall.
Julian Claridge, Bernie Cooper and Adam Payne were the Lions' best. Goalkicker Mark Murphy broke even with Beechey in an entertaining contest.
Elsewhere, Timboon Demons caused one of the boilovers of the season when they upstaged Panmure at Timboon Recreation Reserve.
The Demons claimed their third win in four weeks thanks to the 17.13 (115) to 9.5 (59) result against a side missing David Haynes and Tim Condon.
Dennington defied a gallant Kolora-Noorat at Noorat Recreation Reserve to remain second on the ladder, 13.17 (95) to 8.13 (61).
Merrivale turned a 13-point half-time lead into a dominant 21.13 (139) to 9.3 (57) win against Nirranda at Nirranda Recreation Reserve.
Russells Creek broke its season duck in emphatic style, defeating Deakin University 26.24 (180) to 9.8 (62) at Mack Oval.
And Allansford eased past East Warrnambool 28.17 (185) to 2.5 (17) at Allansford Recreation Reserve.
In the A grade netball, Timboon Demons reinforced its spot in the top five thanks to a thrilling one-goal win against Panmure, 48-47.
The Demons, who were on the wrong end of a one-goal result against Nirranda in May, are a game clear in fourth spot.
Kolora-Noorat was the other big victor to emerge from the day with regards to ladder position.
The Power leapfrogged Dennington into second with a 46-34 win, which relegated the Dogs to third.
Nirranda continued its giant-killing run with a 47-35 defeat of Merrivale, a result which dropped the Tigers to sixth.
The Blues have also beaten Timboon Demons and Allansford this season and are only percentage out of the top five.
That result allowed Allansford to rise to fifth after its 79-21 win against East Warrnambool.
And Deakin University dented Russells Creek's bid to play finals with a 52-29 victory.
The Sharks and Kangaroos are eight and six points out of the finals spots respectively, with seven rounds to play.
