Eleven juniors from the two clubs will don green-and-white lycra for stage one of Netball Victoria’s association championships in Warrnambool tomorrow.
They are among 350 juniors from 10 associations who will feature at the tournament, a qualifier for state finals in Melbourne next month.
Former North Warrnambool Eagles coach Sharon Kenna will coach the Hampden 17 and under side.
Kenna said she was pleased with the players at her disposal. Four hail from the expansion clubs, split evenly between the Tigers and Kangaroos.
“The girls I’ve chosen, if you look at the ladder it’s Hamilton, North Warrnambool, Portland and Terang Mortlake,” Kenna said.
Kenna said height would hold her side in good stead tomorrow and — should it qualify — at state finals.
Having tall players proved advantageous at Netball Victoria’s regional state league champions challenge earlier this year. The lessons learnt remain fresh.
“I picked them on their skill level as well but I always went for height in the team,” Kenna said.
Hampden will field sides in each of the three age groups tomorrow — 17 and under, 15 and under and 13 and under.
Warrnambool and District and Warrnambool City will also chase berths in the grand finals and progression to state finals.
