A review of the Warrnambool City Council will also begin in July.
The Victorian Electoral Commission’s electoral representation review will call for public submissions.
Under the Local Government Act the commission is required to hold a review of each Victorian council at least once every 12 years.
The review considers the appropriate number of councillors for the municipality, if it should be divided into wards and — if it is already divided — if there are an appropriate number of councillors per ward, and internal ward boundaries.
Corangamite is divided into five wards, with three councillors representing the central area, which takes in Terang and Camperdown. The other four wards are represented by one councillor each.
The review is unable to review external boundaries, divide a municipality, or amalgamate with another municipality.
The shire’s last electoral review in 2004 reduced the number of councillors from 10 to seven.
A public information session is planned for August 3, with preliminary submissions to close on August 26.
A preliminary report will be released on September 23 which may include different options for a municipality structure.
Response submissions will then be invited until October 21, to be followed by a public hearing on October 26.
The final report making recommendations to the minister will be released on November 18.
