McLeod, filling in for ill mentor Bobby Cunningham, guided the Seahawks to a thumping 41-point win against Altona Gators at the Arc on Saturday night before they suffered a 11-point loss to Casey Cavaliers on the road yesterday.
McLeod praised the Seahawks for their teamwork against the Gators but lamented their fourth quarter fadeout against the Cavaliers.
Casey won 77-66 after scores were tied at three-quarter-time.
The Seahawks could only muster 12 points in the final term.
“We didn’t run out of legs, we just didn’t make the right decisions,” McLeod said. “We rushed the ball a bit trying to set up our offence.”
McLeod was honest in his self-appraisal after the loss to Casey. “I take the blame for the last quarter, being the new coach,” he said.
“Without the big fella (Cunningham) here was a learning process for us all.
“I should have trusted the bench a bit more when things got close.
“That is something I take away from the game — I should have mixed up the rotations a bit more.”
The Seahawks were without defensive powerhouse Simon O’Keefe against the Cavaliers.
“He would have thrived against Casey,” McLeod said.
“They’re big and strong and like to muscle people around and that’s his strength and Matt Alexander’s too, but he is enjoying Bali.”
McLeod, though, was thrilled with the team performance against Altona.
The 106-65 win was set up in the first quarter as the Seahawks raced to a 21-point lead.
An emphatic 33-point third term pushed the margin out to 43 at the final change.
Eight Seahawks scored double-figures.
“Altona’s defence wasn’t quite on song and the boys took advantage of that,” McLeod said.
“Dion Smith set us off on a big note, he hit big shots at the start of the game.
“Josh Dean went at 71 per cent from the three-point line.”
Seahawks president Jacob Sobey top-scored with 13 points in the 79-56 division two youth league loss to Casey Cavaliers on Saturday night.
The Seahawks trailed at every change as they slumped to their 12th straight defeat.
