SOUTH-WEST councils have received nearly $1 million in road funding in the latest instalment of the federal government’s Roads to Recovery grant program.

Warrnambool City Council has received $324,000 which it has allocated to its road rehabilitation program.
Moyne Shire Council’s grant was $200,000 and it has not yet finalised where the money will be spent.
However, Moyne’s physical services director Trev Greenberger said the council anticipated the funds would be spent on work on up to five sections of the Ellerslie-Panmure Road, the southern section of the Grassmere-Hexham Road, a section of Childers Cove Road and a section of Minjah-Hawkesdale Road.
Corangamite Shire Council received $288,000 from the program and Southern Grampians Council $122,978.
A Southern Grampians spokesman said 14 projects had been put forward as candidates to receive Roads to Recovery funding. Those on the list for upgrades were the Hamilton-Chatsworth, South Boundary, Blackwood-Dunkeld, Williams, Davies at Gritjurk, Christies, Roulstons at Gritjurk, Byaduk-Penshurst, Tarrayoukyan, Murndal and Recreation roads, Noske Court and Petschells Lane.
Also on the list was the replacement of the Camerons Road Bridge.
Member for Wannon Dan Tehan said councils throughout the Wannon electorate received a total of $1.4 million in Roads to Recovery grants, part of more than $135 million allocated to 354 local government authorities throughout Australia.
“Roads to Recovery is so appreciated by local councils because it allows them to direct local road funding to where it is needed most,” Mr Tehan said.
He said the the 2015 federal budget had allocated double the Roads to Recovery allocation for the 2015-16 financial year compared to the previous year.
