Before the horses left the gates in yesterday’s Wheelie Waste Grand Annual Steeplechase, Grace Laing belted out the national anthem.
The daughter of trainer Robbie Laing, Grace, 14, appeared on the Nine Network’s singing competition The Voice Kids.
“It was incredible,” she said.
“I got to work with Delta Goodrem and I made it to the top two on her team.”
Grace said after the show finished she completed an album and went on a tour.
“A lot of opportunities have come from the show,” she said.
“I have enjoyed singing for years, but I only started getting lessons four years ago. I’ve just started writing my own songs with a production company and I’ve started learning the guitar. I really enjoy it. It gives me a lot better understanding of music.”
The Pearcedale teen said she also has an interest in horses and equestrian pursuits.
“I ride all the time,” she said.
“I have a horse and go to pony club. I love eventing.”
While her passion for horse riding was strong, she said her true love was singing.
“Singing is my focus,” she said.
“It’s the only thing I really want to do.”
