The well-travelled horseman, who grew up in Warrnambool before leaving to chase his racing dreams, prepared the filly to win a three-year-old maiden over 1700 metres.
Jockey Michelle Payne sat the $3.70 second-favourite third last before moving six wide rounding the turn and dashing home, her second win for the day.
Aaron Purcell’s Kinglami ($3.60) challenged the winner in the straight but fell a length short. Matthew Williams’ Iceyfiable was third.
“It was a great ride … It was a smart move just coming to the 600, got off their back and got onto the back of Damien Oliver … good bloke to be following,” McArdle said.

McArdle left home at 16 and worked in “England, Ireland, America, New Zealand”.
Upon returning to Australia he was foreman to Tony Vasil, Graeme Rogerson and Lee Freedman before going out on his own 13 years ago.
