A modern structure is being installed to provide safer access for pedestrians, including many of the 170 pupils attending the local primary school.
It is part of a $500,000-plus upgrade to nearby Jubilee Park which also includes a playground, picnic shelter and seating.
The funding comprises $374,000 from state government and $190,000 from the Warrnambool City Council.
Revitalisation of the park has been a joint project with the council, Friends of Jubilee Park, Woodford Primary School and other community groups.
