Veal, who posted his 12th feature race win of the season with the stunning victory at Allansford’s Premier Speedway, will later this week join the powerful Perth-based Krikke Motorsport team for a hit-and-run mission across the Nullarbor on Saturday night.
The 26-year-old will headline the field for the Triple Crown at Perth Motorplex.
“It’s just a one-off, they asked me,” Veal said.
“I need a bit more experience in Perth.”
Veal is searching for new mountains to climb in the sport after producing one of the most dominant seasons in recent memory.
His 12 feature race wins around the country are double that of any driver with Victorian Dave Murcott, the two-time national champion, having won six times.
Veal’s seventh win from the eight SRA feature races he has contested this season was arguably his best.
Instead of adopting a conservative approach to protect his lead in the series, he stormed from position five on the grid to wage a thrilling battle for the lead with polesitter, Mount Gambier’s Steven Lines.
He produced a number of breathtaking slide jobs on the low line through turns one and two to close on Lines and then with 17 laps of the 30-lap feature to run, he slid under Lines, who had been sticking to the high line.
The following lap, Lines went low under Veal in the same spot. Then Veal repeated the move the following lap before Lines edged ahead once more.
With nine laps to go Veal then made a decisive swoop for the lead, again through turn two, and sprinted clear. As he rounded the final corner, the marshalls had the chequered flag ready to drop only for South Australian Daniel Pestka to come to a stop in the middle of the front straight, forcing a restart and two laps put back on the counter.
Veal burst away from the restart, finishing ahead of Lines and Warrnambool’s Corey McCullagh, who won the B main after starting from position three and then worked his way through the A main field from 13th.
Veal said he had tried to adopt a conservative approach early in the night in a bid to capture the series crown but that didn’t work for him.
Instead, he forgot about the points standings and figured the best way to protect his lead was to win.
“It was a good track. It would have been great to watch,” Veal said of the duel with Lines. “It’s good to finally get one (the series).”
His win almost certainly stitched up the Premier Speedway track championship, which like the SRA series, carries a $10,000 prize.
Veal, who is accustomed to racing around the high line on his home track, said he enjoyed the low line and the slide jobs.
“I’m happy to go anywhere I’m passing cars,” he said.
“You can’t pass (up high) if they’re right up there.”
Veal entered the grand final with a 154-point lead in the series from Langwarrin’s Brett Milburn while Daniel Pestka was a further 154 points adrift in third. They filled positions fifth, sixth and seventh on the grid for the feature, meaning Milburn had to finish about 15 positions higher than Veal to steal the championship.
Milburn was fourth in the feature and retained second in the standings after a brave fight, 178 points behind Veal. South Australian Pestka was third in the standings while three other south-west drivers, rookie Jye O’Keeffe (sixth), Portland’s Adam King (eighth) and McCullagh (10th) finished the series in the top 10.
