Lines, who is not in contention for the series title, has a licence to chase the round win rather than accumulate points.
While Warrnambool’s Jamie Veal, Langwarrin’s Brett Milburn and South Australian Daniel Pestka, are fighting for the $10,000 overall series win, Lines wants to upstage the trio.
“We will try and put it up front and try and cause a bit of mayhem for them,” Lines said.
“We have everything to gain and nothing to lose. I would rather that.”
The Mount Gambier driver looms an X-factor in the points calculations during tomorrow night’s racing. While Veal dominated the previous round at his home track a fortnight ago, Lines’ speed means he won’t have it all his own way.
Lines is fresh from an extended stint in Western Australia, where he was second in the national title and won a round of World Series Sprintcars at Albany.
“We were OK. Every night we were up there,” he said.
“We were second on night one of the Krikke boys (shootout) and fourth the second night. It would have been nice to get a couple more wins.”
Lines said he was looking forward to returning to Premier Speedway, the venue for his two Classic victories.
But he said repeating Veal’s 9.963-second record for a lap around the circuit from a fortnight ago was not on his agenda.
“I reckon that’s quick enough,” Lines said.
“The quickest I have been around there is 10.1 and that was a while ago. That was a great effort but we don’t really want to be beating that.
“It’s created a lot of talk but in saying that, that’s quick and no one is ever going to pass. It’s amazing it (the 10-second barrier) got broken. It had to happen, but now it’s been done, I don’t think Premier will want that happening too much.”
Lines said he expected the track to be conducive for passing rather than lightning quick at the last meeting, which was affected by showers in the lead-up.
He is planning to stay close to home as the southern states’ season races to its traditional Easter close. He will race at Murray Bridge next weekend before completing the Easter Trail, which includes races at Avalon, Mount Gambier and Premier Speedway.
