Lewis, a three-time premiership player with the Hawks, was held back from last week’s NAB Challenge opener against Collingwood in Tasmania.
But he was yesterday named alongside the captain, Colac’s Luke Hodge, for Sunday’s match against North Melbourne in Shepparton.
The Hawks have named 18 from last year’s premiership side for the match with Hodge, Lewis, key forward Jarryd Roughead and wingman Bradley Hill all getting their first competitive outing.
The quartet were all named for last week’s game but were withdrawn in the lead-up to the match.
The match will have a strong south-west flavour with Cobden export Ben Cunnington named in the Kangaroos squad of 29.
In other developments, Cobden’s Gary Rohan is in a near full-strength Sydney Swans squad for their match against Brisbane Lions tonight at Coffs Harbour. The Lions have included former Terang Mortlake star Lewis Taylor.
