The Port Fairy resident is working towards raising enough money to build a kindergarten and school in his home village of Mto wa Mbu.
At 9.30am on Wednesday at the town’s IGA store, Mr Sakate will have his distinctive dreadlocks shaved, all money raised going to the building fund.
Late last year he received $6000 from the Port Fairy Folk Festival via the Port Fairy Rotary Club for the project.
In April he will head to Tanzania with a group of 15 volunteers to begin building the kindergarten.
He is also keen to hear from anyone interested in helping out on the project at an administrative level in Port Fairy.
Over the last month collection tins have been placed around Port Fairy and people will be able to donate on the day of the shave.
Mr Sakate praised the generosity of the people of Port Fairy and visitors to the town.
“If I lived somewhere else it might not have been so easy to raise the amount of money I have,” Mr Sakate said.
“The people of Port Fairy are happy to give and so are the visitors who are here. I would like to thank everyone for their support.”
