It will resolve a long-running debate which goes back to 1991 when it was renamed Port Fairy Village Green by the former borough council rather than Fiddler’s Green as locals had known it for generations beforehand.
Moves to have it go back to the original title came from the Port Fairy Folk Festival Committee after years of listing it as Fiddler’s Green on the festival program list.
The committee said the name had a “mythical context and even has a folk song of that name that reflects that”.
“This emphasises Port Fairy as a seafaring, music and cultural place”.
The meeting will be held in the Mortlake municipal offices from 4.30pm.
