The study recommended the council prepare design concepts to develop fully serviced industrial lots on 7.5 hectares of council land on Hamilton-Port Fairy Road.
It suggested a business case be prepared for inclusion in the 2015-16 budget of an expression of interest process for the development of the industrial lots.
The study recommended the council consider the strategic merit in having large industrial lot land available should a large-scale business seek to set up in the greater Hamilton region.
The council said the development of industrial land in Hamilton had traditionally depended on the expansion of its key industries.
Those industries included manufacturing, construction, electricity, gas and wastewater services, wholesale trade and transport, and postal and warehousing and accounted for about 40 per cent of all Southern Grampians Shire residents’ employment.
However the council’s tourism and economic development manager Hugh Koch said having fully serviced industrial land available not only allowed the council to be ready when attracting further investment, but also provided space options for current businesses to relocate.
