Brumby’s Bakery and St Vincent de Paul customers were able to purchase $3 tokens that were hung up on a specially-designed Christmas tree by St Joseph’s Primary School Mini Vinnies group.
The tokens were then collected by St Vincent de Paul, which distributed them to Warrnambool families, who exchanged them for two loaves of bread at the Centro Brumby’s bakery.
St Vincent de Paul west Warrnambool conference president Chris Nolan said the campaign had great community support.
“It’s a wonderful initiative by Brumby’s and their franchises,” he said.
“It is very generous of the Brumby’s customers. I couldn’t believe it.”
Mr Nolan said the donated loaves of bread were a simple way to help people make ends meet.
“At this time of year, families that we assist are feeling the financial pinch,” he said.
“The $7 or $8 they spend on bread can be redirected towards a gift for a loved one.”
Brumby’s Bakery owner David McMahon was proud to have been involved.
“The more you can help out, the better it is,” he said.
