The man in red parked his sleigh out front of the hospital for the 84th year in a row to bring some Christmas cheer to the people inside.
His visit came courtesy of the Fonterra Sports and Social Club, which every year carefully selects presents for each of the hospital’s patients.
The tradition began in 1930 and South West Healthcare community partnerships manager Suzan Morey said it was an important event on the festive calendar.
“It brings the patients so much joy and the kids get so excited,” she said.
“It’s just a great thing. It’s a significant community project.”
Santa and his helpers delivered about 150 presents, while Holiday Actors members added to the yuletide cheer by singing carols.
