Four P&O cruise ships will dock at the SL Patterson Wharf next year as the city’s efforts to become a regular stopover point become more successful.
The day visits follow the successful call by the liner MS Europa earlier this year.
Glenelg Shire economic development and tourism manager said the P&O liners had the potential to bring almost five times the number of passengers as the MS Europa.
“They are huge ships, being about 14 storeys high,” Mr Burgess said.
The longest stay by the liners will be 10 hours. That will occur with the visit by the first liner, P&O Pearl, on February 25.
The P&O Pacific Jewel will visit the following day for six hours and again on March 7 for six hours. The P&O Pearl will return on March 10 for nine hours.
Mr Burgess said it was expected the majority of passengers would explore Portland.
