That’s the assessment of coach Amanda Bridges, who will guide the raw-yet-talented team at the state finals in Melbourne tomorrow.
Brauer College is one of eight teams vying for the top honour.
It will play pool matches against Eltham Secondary College, Maribyrnong College and Bendigo Secondary College.
The top sides in each of two pools will play off in the grand final.
Games will consist of three sets: the first two to 25 and the third, if required, to 15.
“I think we can give it a good shot,” Bridges said.
“I’d like to see us try our best. The whole team is athletic.
“They all serve and talk to each other.
“They are the two big things in volleyball.”
Cody Russell, Harley Stuchbury, Horizon Moore, Dylan Chapman, Beau Dignan, Daniel Nevill, Will Timms and Liam Burgess will represent Brauer College, which has called on local volleyball player Cameron Pyke and VCE student Jeremy Bolden for support.
The team advanced to the state finals after winning its two games at Greater Western Region level in Horsham earlier this month.
“It is the first time we’ve had year 7 boys down there,” Bridges said of being part of the final eight.
“There is talent in the team. None of them play competition in Warrnambool. This is just a sport they’ve taken on as an extra.”
