The representative squad suffered back-to-back defeats on the opening day of the tournament at Cheltenham’s Victoria Golf Course yesterday.
Corangamite was thrashed 8.5 to 0.5 by Murray Darling in the morning session before falling 5-4 to Bendigo in the afternoon.
Birregurra stalwart Tim Farquharson was the only golfer to salvage something from the Murray Darling clash, finishing all square with Andrew Stewart.
Farquharson, a proven performer at Country Week, was also the pick of the victors against Bendigo, thrashing Anthony Masters 6 and 4.
Phil Beasley (3 and 2 against Hayden Nielsen) and Alistair Gillin (2 and 1 against Liam Anderson) also won their afternoon contests. The other points came courtesy of Chris Dunn and Jarrod Schill, who squared their encounters with Marcus Gill and Lex Johnstone respectively.
The defeats mean a top-grade triumph, as unlikely as it was entering Country Week, is all but out of the question with three rounds to play.
Corangamite takes on unbeaten West Gippsland in round three and Peninsula in round four at Keysborough golf course today.
