Officers expressed their frustrations after two drink-driving incidents were dealt with over the weekend.
Senior Constable Tony Hassett said just before 11pm on Saturday, police intercepted a vehicle that was being driven erratically in Bowen Street.
“A 37-year-old Camperdown man returned a positive breath test of .115 and was driving an unregistered vehicle,” he said.
“He lost his licence for 11 months, was fined $627 relating to drink-driving and $774 for driving an unregistered vehicle.”
Senior Constable Hassett said 20 minutes after the man was released they were called to a disturbance in Russell Street.
“It was the same male, so he was taken to the cells in Warrnambool where he spent the night,” he said.
Senior Constable Hassett said just before 1am on Sunday, they were called to a single-vehicle crash on the Camperdown-Lismore Road.
“Two males were travelling towards Camperdown after attending a 21st in Lismore when the driver lost control and hit a tree,” he said.
“They were both taken to the Camperdown hospital with minor injuries.
“A 19-year-old Noorat man has been charged on summons in relation to drink-driving offences and will also face a charge of reckless conduct endangering life.”
Senior Constable Hassett said the two were lucky to walk away with only a few cuts and bruises.
“The only thing that saved them was the back of the car hit the tree rather than the front. Both drink-driving incidents had the potential to be much worse than they were.”
