In July the council advertised its intention to rename Short Street, which juts off the end of Edward Street, to Savages Lane after receiving a request from members of the Savage family.
A report to be presented at tonight’s council meeting in Skipton says residents were sent questionnaires calling for feedback, while a call for submissions was also made via a public notice.
The report says only two questionnaires were returned, both of which supported the name change. No other submissions were received.
The road leads to the Savage family farm which was first settled by John and Margaret Savage in 1854.
Their great-great-granddaughter Pam Savage lived on the farm until earlier this year and first wrote to the council three years ago requesting the name change.
She told The Standard in July the lane is locally known as Savages Lane and is often listed on maps and GPS systems by that name.
“Four generations of my family lived and worked on the farm until January this year, when I had to sell it and move into town when it became a bit much to manage,” she said.
The report says the official road names register now shows no issues with the name Savages Lane after council officers rectified earlier issues with a possible double-up of the name in 2011. The Office of Geographic Names has also been contacted and has no objections to the proposed name.
Councillors will vote to apply to the Office of Geographic Names for the change.
They will also vote whether to adopt the planning framework on gaming and to request the Minister for Planning to appoint an independent panel to consider the amendment to the Corangamite planning scheme.
A request for state government funds to implement the next stage of the Skipton flood study mitigation works will also be voted on.
Tonight’s meeting starts at 7pm, at the Skipton Mechanics Hall in Anderson Street.
