SOUTH Warrnambool export Brent Moloney has announced his retirement from the AFL.
Moloney, who joined the Brisbane Lions last year, called time on his 166-game career as he battles to overcome an Achilles injury. The midfielder has played just five matches in 2014 after 16 last year.
Moloney, a popular figure in the south-west, started his career with Geelong before moving to Melbourne, where he was a vice-captain, before moving north to the Lions.
The 30-year-old won Melbourne's best and fairest in 2011.
Moloney posted the news on his Instagram account, stating : "What a journey... I had the privilege to play with 3 Great Clubs #Geelong #Melbourne &@brisbanelions I'd like to thank all my Team-mates over the past 12 years & especially my #Family & #Friends for there Support,It's Been a Hell of a Ride (sic)".
