The council has announced the successful recipients of its 2014-15 festival and events funding.
Twenty-two events shared in the funding with groups in Peterborough, Mortlake, Port Fairy, Koroit, Hawkesdale Macarthur, Woorndoo, Panmure and Caramut successful.
The funding ranged from $20,000 to $501 with events including festivals, race meetings, a market day, a community street party and Australia Day celebrations.
Some of the funding allocations went to groups outside the shire that bring events into Moyne. The Tour of the Great South Coast, received the most funding at $20,000.
Cr Jim Doukas said council staff needed to use the Tour of the Great South Coast to promote the shire as there were so many visitors involved in the event.
Mayor James Purcell said an idea had been put forward for council to hire a helicopter and get aerial images of the ride in action to use for promotional purposes.
Council staff told councillors the possibility of this idea was still being worked through. Also included in the funding allocations were $5000 for sponsorship of the Westvic Dairy Awards and $6000 for the Warrnambool Racing Club to help stage the Port Fairy and Koroit community race days.
The council had set aside $130,000 for the festival and events funding so still has $27,589 available.
Moyne Shire councillors signed off on the funding at their July meeting last week, with Cr Jill Parker singing the praises of the funding allocations.
“This is another example of the council showing commitment to community events,” Cr Parker said.
