The Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail committee of management has sourced funding for the $36,000 project.
Money raised from a movie night and an open house held by the Port Fairy Casual Riders group made up two fund-raising efforts. Additional funding was secured from two philanthropic trusts.
Committee secretary Ian Bodycoat said the project was very important.
“The work will involve repairing the canopy where needed and giving it a paint job,” Mr Bodycoat said.
“It will make the platform at the station a very functional place and already there are ideas coming forward for its use. It could be a great place for a concert and we think it will make it a very user-friendly spot.”
Moyne Shire Council also gave the group $385 for a new hand mower to help with maintenance.
