The OLHC school community collected five-cent coins for Relay For Life throughout May — the fifth month of the year.
Each classroom had its own collection tin as part of the drive, with pupils encouraged to involve their families, neighbours and local community.
Parent and Relay For Life team co-ordinator Jo Moon said almost $1000 was raised in the drive last year, with a similar target this year.
“Collecting five-cent pieces and adding them all together is a way for the kids to see a bit bigger than their own classroom,” Mrs Moon said.
“This shows kids you don’t need a lot of money individually to help go towards a cause.
“For our team there’s a lot of community element involved in being in Relay For Life, so this is just a small way to help.”
