BOATERS have been urged to check their gear and abide by the rules when heading out for the long weekend as Transport Safety Victoria (TSV) officers prepare to patrol waterways.
“We know that speed is often a factor in collisions, so don’t be fooled on the water — stick to the speed limit at all times,” TSV spokesman Paul Corkill said.
“The upcoming Labour Day weekend is particularly busy on many waterways.”
The appeal comes as the maritime safety regulator reported 80 watercraft incidents this year, including six fatalities and five serious injuries.
TSV officers will be out this weekend enforcing speed and distance rules and providing boaters with practical advice on how they can reduce fire and safety risks.”
