Nine CFA units, including four aircraft, and four DSE units attended the Bridgewater Road fire after the alert was raised at 1.24pm.
District 4 operations officer Brian Brady said the coastal scrub fire was under control at 3pm with no property damaged.
"It's Crown Land along the Great South West Walk," he said.
"Police have blocked Cape Bridgewater Road at both ends and public advice has gone out to let people know there's a fire in the area.
"Fire bombers are loading out of the Portland airfield - two from Casterton and two from Hamilton."
The CFA warned smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roads.
