A 54-YEAR-OLD Colac logger died yesterday after the tree he was cutting down fell on top of him.

Detective Senior Constable Stuart Sims, of Colac police crime investigation unit, said the accident happened at 10.15am yesterday.
He said the highly experienced logger was felling a tree with a large chainsaw when it bounced off a nearby tree branch and fell on him.
The well-known man was killed instantly.
"He was a very experienced and was felling a tree on a steep incline. The tree looked like a telephone pole. It's bounced back, hit him and then landed on top of him," he said.
"The accident happened at about 10.15am and was reported to emergency services soon after. An ambulance and police attended but there was nothing that could be done for the man."
WorkSafe officers are investigating the incident and police will prepare a report for the Victorian Coroner.
