Strong south-westerly winds whipped up dust and ash from paddocks, creating zero visibility for motorists.
Police urged drivers to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
The paddocks were blackened by a fire, which was sparked from several ignition points last Wednesday afternoon. It has been contained but is still burning in rugged countryside.
